How to create YUM repository on RedHat 6.2

Assuming that we have Redhat Boot media as repository and want to create YUM repository.

1 .Create a file under /etc/yum.repos.d/redhat-dvd.repo and put following lines in.

[rhel-dvd]
name=Red Hat Enterprise Linux $releasever – $basearch – DVD
baseurl=”file:///media/RHEL_6.2 x86_64 Disc 1″
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-redhat-release

2. Change baseurl to mount point of Redhat Boot Media DVD.  If you want to use some other ftp/http sources, change baseurl to that address.

3. run “yum check-update” command to rebuild your repository database. then it should start to rebuild repository database.

#yum check-update
